What is Discord's video size limit?
Free Discord accounts can upload files up to 10 MB. Nitro Basic raises the limit to 50 MB and full Nitro to 500 MB. These limits apply per file in both servers and DMs.
How does this get my video under 10 MB?
The tool calculates a video bitrate from your clip's duration so that video plus audio lands just under the target, then re-encodes with H.264 at that bitrate, capping resolution at 720p. Long videos need lower bitrates, so a 30-second clip will look much better at 10 MB than a 5-minute one.
Will the quality be bad?
For clips under about a minute, 10 MB is plenty and the result looks good. For longer videos the bitrate has to drop to fit, so consider trimming to the highlight first with our trim tool — shorter clip, better quality.
Is this safe for private clips?
Yes — the video is compressed on your own device using WebAssembly and is never uploaded to any server. We never see your file.
Why is my compressed file slightly under the target?
We leave a ~7% margin for container overhead so the file reliably clears Discord's check. A target of 10 MB typically produces a 9.3–9.9 MB file.
